Types Of Power Supply Connectors

Types of Power Supply Connectors - Power supply is a computer component that serves to provide electrical power for all components. The power supply has several connectors with different shapes. The forms of the power supply connectors are:

1. 20/24 pin ATX Motherboard connector

This connector is used to connect electricity from the power supply to the motherboard. This connector consists of two parts where the first part is 20 pins and the second part is 4 pins. For new motherboards, connector 20 and connector 4 are combined.

2. Connector 4/8 pin 12V

The 4-pin 12V (P4) connector and the 8-pin 12V (EPS) connector are used to provide dedicated power to the processor. P4 began to be used on motherboards for Pentium 4 processors so it was called P4. The function of this connector is to provide additional power of 12 V for Pentium 4 processors. EPS connectors are commonly used for server motherboards.

3. 6 pin PCIe . connector

This connector is used to provide power to some PCIe-based graphics cards that require more power than usual graphics cards. Rarely found on PCs, only PCs are used in the multimedia field, especially video. This connector consists of 6-pin, ie 3 lines +12V and 3 lines ground.

4. Connector 4 pin peripheral power connector (Molex)

These connectors are used to supply power to the various hardware components contained in the computer case. These components include hard drives, CD-ROMs, fans and others. This connector consists of four wires. One red cable with a +5V voltage serves to provide power to the logic controller. One yellow cable with a voltage of +12V as a power source for the driving motor. Two black wires as ground.

5. Floppy Connector

This connector only serves to supply power to the floppy disk drive. The number of lines on this connector is the same as on the Molex connector, which is 4 lines with the same color distribution of cables and the same amount of voltage. Only physically different, namely the floppy connector is smaller than the Molex connector.

6. SATA connector

This connector is used specifically for components that use the SATA interface, such as hard drives. This connector has 3 voltages, namely +3.3V, +5V and +12V.
